Positions Open: Scientist & Lab Assistant for Basudha

Basudha Laboratory for Conservation, Kolkata is the country’s – and perhaps the world’s – only research laboratory that receives no funding support from any governmental and corporate institution. Two positions are open for committed candidates.

Position 1:  Research Scientist

Indian citizens as well as citizens of South Asian countries (holding appropriate visa and work permit) with M.Sc./ M.Phil./ Ph.D./ D. Phil. in botany/ zoology/ molecular biology/ microbiology/ biochemistry/ biotechnology/ environmental biology may apply.

Job description :

(i) Biochemical assay and molecular characterization of domesticated crops, especially folk rice varieties;
(ii) Building up biochemical and molecular database of selected plants in South Asia.

Required skills:
(a) Familiarity with PCR, DNA gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, HPLC and other techniques of biochemistry.
(b) Experience of work with bioinformatic software.

Emolument offered :

INR 20K (consolidated) p.m. for a probation period of 2 months. Subsequently, the emolument is likely to increase upon confirmation of position. 

Position 2: Laboratory Assistant

Indian citizens with H.S. or B.Sc. or equivalent may apply. 

Job description :

Wet lab work, including washing of glassware; assistance in preparation of samples for analyses; assistance in characterization of crop landraces.

Emolument offered :

INR 6,000 p.m. for an apprenticeship of 1 month. Subsequently, the emolument will be raised to 8,000 (consolidated) p.m. upon confirmation of position. Outstation candidates are entitled to HRA of INR 1000 p.m.
